WEST 27TH URBAN CONTEMPORARY

project description

Built by Sage Construction, this compact contemporary home plays with highlighting rectangular shapes through its materials and proportions. The painted, flat slab kitchen has an unusual space design feature: the kitchen millwork continues into the mudroom/side entry millwork.

This play on continuous space and storage planning extends into the master bedroom, where the ensuite bathroom and the master closet join in one long line of millwork. As one enters the room, in between this unit’s main clothes closet and the bathroom vanity, there is a beautiful art vignette with millwork gables framing a bank of drawers, lending a feeling of intimacy and thoughtfulness to the space. The integrated wardrobes feature consistent shadow line reveals at their tops, bottoms and sides, with the lack of toe kick making them feel weightless, as if suspended in air. While this appears effortlessly simple, it is actually deceptively so, and it required a great deal of millwork expertise to pull it off.
